Who am I?

Husband and father of two child adults. Working full-time as a contractor in the IT industry, now trying my hand at writing.

Some people look at their life and think how can I make things easier and more relaxing, and that isn't different to what I look for, but back in 2018 I decided I would have a try at writing, I mean after all how hard can it be, right?

Well a year and a half later I sit here with a completed manuscript, edited and ready to be formatted. It's at this point were I realise maybe I should have just decided not to spend a year and a half of drafting and editing a 300 page plus novel and instead watched TV, but there you go.

I was never a reader growing up, hated school and struggled with anything academic. I did read all the Harry Potter books, back to back, when my kids were young, they weren't interested however. It wasn't until I started contracting in June 2017 and I got an Audible (online audio book software), account to give myself something to listen to whilst travelling the country for work, that was when my love of books really began.

I started with autobiographies of my favourite musicians in the metal arena, then I moved onto Neil Gaiman, as I used to read Sandman as a teen. I realised then with fiction I had to use my imagination more, building a picture, worlds. I wanted more, my imagination woke up, dragging itself out of a dormant slumber since school and the HP stint.

I went on a John Scalzi run, and loved it. Scott Meyer was next and then ideas started to bloom, characters, worlds. I started to write the first chapter, I thought it was amazing, then a few people read it, feedback was "constructive" to say the least. I rewrote chapter one a fair few times then totally changed it, then rewrote it again.

Once I got to chapter five I couldn't stop, I had to finish it. I was working away a lot so I had time, then I stopped working away and had very little time to write. It took about a year to complete the first draft and up to date, seven months to finish edits.

It's not been easy and anyone who says it is, is either very talented or a bleeding liar.
